Keeping Metagenomics in the spotlight

It’s important that senior leaders hear about the benefits of Metagenomics. Last month (October) we welcomed the new Health Minister, Dr Zubir Ahmed to visit the metagenomics laboratory at St Thomas’ Hospital to see for himself how rapid pathogen detection can help patient care this winter.

We briefed him about the Respiratory Metagenomics Network and the potential power of metagenomics in the NHS.

Following the visit, Dr Ahmed said

“It was great to see the work that the Respiratory Metagenomics Programme is delivering and to discuss the vision and opportunities in metagenomics at a clinical and population health level.

World-first programmes like this exemplify the exciting innovation made possible by the NHS working in partnership with industry, and such partnerships will be vital in helping the Government deliver our Growth and Health missions.”
