Metagenomics on the international stage
Today we joined the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA) in Denmark to discuss antimicrobial resistance on an international stage.
Professor Ian Abbs spoke about the potential for respiratory metagenomics to help tackle the growing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance in our healthcare systems. By providing faster, more accurate diagnostics than our current culture methods, metagenomics is already helping NHS clinicians to tailor treatments for their patients, reducing overall use of antimicrobials. Following a keynote address from Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance, Ian joined a panel of leading experts, including:
- Johan Van Eldere, Secretary General, European University Hospital Alliance
- Yulian Konechnyi, Associate Professor, Lviv National Medical University
- Järvinen Asko, Professor and Head of Infectious Diseases, Helsinki University Hospital.
Thank you to European Hospital University Alliance and Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark for hosting this important discussion.
